Job Summary:
We are seeking a dynamic and resourceful Media Relations Specialist to join our communications team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing the company’s relationship with the media, driving media coverage, and enhancing the brand’s public image. The ideal candidate will be a proactive communicator, skilled in crafting compelling press materials, building media relationships, and securing press coverage that aligns with company goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Media Outreach & Relationship Management:
Develop and maintain strong, productive relationships with key journalists, reporters, editors, and influencers across relevant industries. - Press Releases & Media Kits:
Write, edit, and distribute press releases, media advisories, and other press materials that promote the company’s initiatives, products, services, and events. - Pitching & Storytelling:
Proactively pitch story ideas to the media and identify news opportunities that align with the brand’s messaging and business objectives. - Media Coverage Tracking:
Monitor and track media coverage of the company and industry; prepare reports on the impact of press coverage. - Crisis Communications:
Support crisis communications efforts when needed, helping to craft messaging and maintain a consistent and accurate brand voice during challenging times. - Press Conferences & Interviews:
Coordinate press conferences, media interviews, and other media events. Prepare company spokespersons and ensure positive media interactions. - Content Creation:
Collaborate with internal teams to create compelling content for media outlets, blogs, and social media platforms that showcase the company’s news, thought leadership, and product offerings. - Brand Reputation Management:
Proactively manage and enhance the company’s reputation in the media, monitoring press coverage and public sentiment. - Event Promotion:
Assist in promoting company events, product launches, or corporate milestones through media channels and securing press coverage. - Media Database Management:
Maintain and update media contact lists and ensure the accuracy of contacts and relationships.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in media relations, public relations, or communications (agency experience is a plus).
- Strong knowledge of media channels, trends, and platforms.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with journalists and key media stakeholders.
- Understanding of how to leverage social media for media relations and brand awareness.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- High attention to detail and the ability to adapt quickly to changes in priorities.
